What to do with all your Newspapers

So, you buy several papers a week, aside from recycling them all what can you do with them? You can make a fort!!

Creative Kids at Home has a great idea on how to make a fort - child sized or doll sized! Its a great indoor, rainy day project I think! Go to the website for step-by-step pictures!!

Supplies
Newspaper
stapler
tape/glue
pencil
scissors

Dynamite Dome can be made in two different sizes. Kids will be able to sit and play inside the full-size playhouse. The small playhouse could be used as a play fort for action figures, or covered with handkerchief to make a doll house. The full-size playhouse uses whole sheets of newspaper. You need to cut the whole sheet into 4 equal pieces to make the small size playhouse. The building instructions are the same for either size dome. Building a playhouse will take some time, perhaps 90 minutes.

1. Making Logs
For a full-size Dome, open 4 sheets of newspaper on top of each other. For the small Dome use two of the 1/4 sheet pieces. Starting at one corner, use a pencil to help you roll the paper diagonally into a log. Slip the pencil out of the log, and tape the log shut. You will need 25 logs to make your dome. Trim all the logs to be the same length cutting off the weak edges of the logs.

2. Building Blocks
Staple three logs together to make a triangle. Make five triangles, using 15 of your logs. These triangles for the building blocks for the walls.

3. Sides of the Dome

Lay the five triangles out in a row with their bottom corners touching. Staple the bottom sides together to create a straight line across the bottom. Staple four logs across the top. Stand the walls up in a ring/pentagon. Use one log to staple the walls of the playhouse together across the top. Leave the bottom row open to creative a doorway, or staple it together for more stability.

4. Making the Roof
Staple the ends of five logs together into a star that forms the roof of the playhouse.

5. Finishing the Dome
Staple each arm of the star to a corner point on the top of the wall. When making a full size playhouse, it helps for have a child in the center of the dome holding the star at right height for stapling.

6. Finishing Touches
put a light weight sheet over the playhouse to make a secret fort;
paint the logs before you put the dome together;
glue pieces of tissue paper over the open triangles to create a stain glass window effect.

Use these logs to build other structures too!

Free Will & Trust Kit from Suze Orman

From now until Saturday, Oct 3rd, you can download a FREE Will & Trust Kit from Suze Orman's website.

Thank you to The Bargainista for this great tip!

From Suze Orman in O Magazine:

Create the Four Most Loving Documents in ExistenceOne of the most tragic disconnects I see is when someone tells me she loves her family to pieces but hasn't set up these four must-have documents: a revocable living trust, a will, a durable power of attorney for finances, and a durable power of attorney for healthcare. I realize these don't sound like a "small" undertaking, since estate lawyers may charge $2,500 to create them. That's why I am thrilled that O readers can download a free copy of my Will & Trust Kit from Hay House for one week. Go to the Will & Trust Kit page on SuzeOrman.com from September 27 to October 3, 2009. Then click on the Gift Code button and enter code 898989.

Expires Saturday, Oct 3, 2009.

*** Having worked for an estate / probate attorney I can tell you that a do-it-yourself kit is NOT a replacement for having an experienced lawyer draw one up for you and your spouse. Yes it can be expensive and this freebie is definatly better than nothing, I however would only use it temporarily until you can afford to have an attorney review your documents and make sure it is 100% correct & legal in your state. Thats just my 2 cents.

LAST DAY FOR STARBUCKS' TREAT RECIEPT

Today is the last day to get and use a Starbucks Treat Reciept. A treat reciept is when you buy something before 2PM, you take your reciept and come back after 2PM and get ANY Grande drink for only $2 (+tax) = $2.17. That is a great deal, most regular priced grande drinks are over $3 and some over $4!! Thats half priced Starbucks!

Fred Meyers - Coupons

Speaking of Fred Meyer - They have several different kinds of coupons I thought I should go over.

The Orange MFR / FM Qs- (usually hanging by product) These are MFR Qs that are paid by the Manufacturer. (Like the cheap Suave a week or so ago) You may NOT use another MFR Q with it. That is fraudulent and not proper usage. You may only use these at Fred Meyers. If you use a MFR Q with this Q it will beep.

The Orange FM Store Qs- (also hanging by product) These say "store coupon". (like the Glade Qs in the below post) You CAN match a MFR Q with these, as FM pays for the discount on one and the MFR on the other. No beeps.

In-ad Qs- These are store coupons. Say you have an In-ad Q for Tree Top Juice for 4/$5 you can stack it with a MFR $1/2 Q. No beeps.
Catalina Qs- These print from the register and have the FM logo on it. These are typically MFR Qs you can use anywhere. Some other stores dont like them, but should take them.

So, read your FM Qs carefully. The two orange Qs look very similar. I went to customer service at my Snohomish store and they were very helpful in explaining the differences.
**Always check the Coupon Exchange on your way in and out of the store. I have found some amazing catalina Qs in there (several for FREE items!!) that people just throw away like garbage! Plus I have found home mailer Qs too!

.

Free Glade Sense & Spray at Fred Meyers

Here is what I found at FM on Sunday (sorry it took me forever to get it posted!)

Fred Meyers has their Sense & Spray priced at $7.49
Use the Fred Meyer hanging orange store Q -$3.00
Use THIS Printable MFR Q -$4.00
or $4/1 from 10/06/09 Womens Day Magazine
or $4/1 from 7/24/09 All You Magazine (this is the Q I used)
or $4/1 from October Better Homes & Garden Magazine

= $.79 oop +tax (should be right around $1.00)

And you get back a $2 catalina to spend OYNO!
There is also a $1 Kraft OYNO and a $1 Krusteaz OYNO that printed for me as well (I bought 2 A-1 and 3 Krusteaz Muffin Mix) although I am not sure what the actual limits are.
.

Free Hershy's 2010 Baking Calendar (w/ 4 UPCs)

Free HERSHEY®’S KISSES® 2010 Baking Calendar

This handsome calendar includes twelve easy and delicious kitchen-tested recipes, plus $4.00 in moneysaving coupons! It’s a big (12" x 18") beautiful wall calendar that will help you bake it special! Boxes) and enclose the form in an envelope along with four (4) UPC symbols (any combination) for each Calendar ordered from any 8 oz. or larger packages of HERSHEY’®S, REESE’S®, or HEATH® Baking Chips, HERSHEY’®S Baking Bars or HERSHEY’®S Cocoa.

Joint Juice - Good Deal at Safeway

WYB 7 joint juice you will get a catalina for $5 off of 7 bottles coupon and also a $10 OYNO catalina. Promo ends 10/18/09. The $5 off of 7 will print out after the first bottle of joint juice you buy... so this is what you have to do to maximize your $$.

1. Buy 1 Joint Juice and pay with one $1/1 printable . Your OOP will be $.39 plus tax (based on $1.39 a bottle). You will recieve the $5 off 7 bottle coupon .

2. buy 7 joint juice and use the $5 off 7 from above. You will receive the $5 off 7 coupon back and a $10 OYNO coupon. Your OOP should be $4.73 plus tax (based on $1.39 a bottle).

3. buy 7 joint juice and $5.27 filler. Pay with the $5 off 7 bottle and $10 OYNO catalina from step 2. Your OOP should be tax only. You will get your $5 off 7 coupon and the $10 OYNO catalina back! :D (Use this to stock up on Meats or other items you dont typically have Qs for!)

4. rinse repeat!!!

Your initial OOP will be $5.12 plus tax but all other transactions after that will have overage from step 3!

Oh and SD is reporting that the $5 off 7 bottle mft coupon will need a manager override since it's coded wrong. But that should be fine, since it's their catalina coupon, and you are buying 7 so you are following all the rules correctly.

Coupon Organization 101

Ok, here are some basic tips and ideas to help you get started with couponing.

Collect coupons: Sunday paper inserts, the blinkie machine at stores, Catalina coupons you get a the register, peelies (Q found on product), tear pads, coupons inside products, printable coupons online and coupons mailed to you directly from the manufacturer, etc.

Once you get the papers you have to get organized!

Sort coupons: I have two main files. My clear one is for food products, blue is non-food household items. Each is divided into categories for easy finding while shopping. I have a Target file, that is only for Target Qs and their MFR match. I also have an Orange Pencil Pouch that I put all my Qs in that I have not sorted. That is sort of my catch-all. lol Go HERE for more (and different) ideas. Then all three files and my assorted other thing (scissors, envelopes etc) go in my coupon bag, that makes it easy to carry into the store.

Food File: Beverages, Dairy, Frozen, Canned, Breakfast, Snacks, Pantry, Meat, Condiments, Candy, Produce, Other

Household File: Baby, Razor, Oral Care, Hair Product, Skin Products, Make-up, Cleaning, Paper Products, Air Fresheners, Kitchen (foil, saran wrap etc), Other

Target File: Today's Coupons, Beverages, Food, Hair / Lotion, Deodorant / Teeth / Shave, Cleaning, Make-up, Paper product, Baby, other Target, other MFR, Other (that one is my Target coupon policy)

My whole inserts go in my large File Folder, divided by date. About every couple months I go through the oldest inserts and toss the ones that have all expired.

Ok, so now you have all your coupons and they are organized! Great! Now, find your deals. Blogs (like this one!) and your store's weekly ad are the best two places to start! What I do is take an envelope (one for each store I'm going to that shopping trip) and I write on the outside what I am getting and how many, then I put all the coupons inside. Now instead of lugging my whole coupon bag w/ me I just take the one envelope.

Checkout: I try and go and do my larger coupon runs when the store isn't too busy. The cashier will be frazzled and less friendly (in my opinion) if there is a long line behind you. Also, don't be afraid to ask for a manager to clarify things if your cashier doesn't want to take a legitimate coupon. And make sure to print your store's coupon policy. This is their rules- They have to abide by it!!

Ways to Earn Free $$, Gift Cards and Items

Swagbucks - A search engine you would use just like google, except you earn points which you can redeam for gift cards or other items. Read more HERE. Sign up HERE. I have earned $15 in Amazon Gift Cards and $40 in Starbucks Gift Cards since January of this year. I am only a few points away from my next $10 Starbucks GC.

Vocal Point - A group for moms to try new products as they hit the market. I get high dollar coupons plus coupons for free products and samples about every 5 or 6 weeks it seems from Vocal Point. Most recently, Free Kashi Waffles, Free Rice Krispy Cereal and Free Kashi Sunshine Honey Cereal. Go HERE to visit their website and see if it interests you. Go HERE to read an earlier post on how these high dollar and free coupons really worked out for me!

Pampers Points - This is really only a good deal if you have a child in diapers and you are using Pampers. My son is 2 1/2 and we have used Pampers for about the last year or so. Since I signed up for this I have gotten a coupon for a bottle of FREE Deft, and most recently a GO Diego Go Potty seat! While it does take a while to accumulate enough points for something "good" if you are using Pampers anyways, why not?

Huggies Enjoy the Ride - Same as above, only a good deal if you are using Huggies. With their program you enter you points then you can redeem them in an "instant win" or enter a contest. The instant win prizes are awesome though, $25 Kohls GC, $25 Starbucks GC, Free packs of diapers, etc. The Gift Cards change every month or so. I have never won, but even if you only win once its still a really good prize!

I have had problem after problem with cashier not accepting coupons that could create overage. Well that is fine, I dont need the overage, I just want the item free. And looking here-- thats what they have to do!! No more denied coupons!

Target Stores Coupon PolicyCoupons are a great way to save even more when shopping with us, and it's easy to use them at our stores.
• Target accepts one manufacturer coupon and one Target coupon for the same item (unless prohibited)
• Super Target coupons can be used in any Target store if the store carries the item
• We gladly accept valid internet coupons

Because of the variety of coupons available to our guests, we do have some guidelines for how coupons can be redeemed at Target.

When accepting coupons, we use the following guidelines:
• We accept two kinds of coupons: Target-issued coupons and manufacturer-issued.
• We'll accept one Target coupon and one manufacturer coupon for the same item, unless either coupon prohibits it.
• Coupon amount may be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied.
• We can't give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of th
e item.
• We can't accept coupons from other retailers, or coupons for products not carried in our stores.
• All valid coupons should be presented to the cashier while you're checking out.

Craft Store Qs 40 & 50 % off one regular priced item

Joann Fabrics and Michaels have coupons in their weekly ad (and sometimes emailed too I think) for 40% and 50% off (respectively) one regular priced item. You can use these to get some really great (and educational) gifts for the children, or adults, in your family for Christmas. I know its only September and offically it is still Summer. But if you start now and each week buy one 1/2 priced toy for the kids in your family (I have 12 kids under 11yr old to buy for this year!) It can really make a dent in your holiday shopping without making a dent in your wallet. Plus most things at these stores are "crafty" and not just the mind-numbing video games we see so often. ;) And that makes the parents happy.

I am not an Ugg fan, but even so this looks like a great deal!

Rebates Galore!

Right now there seems to be several rebates going on and it is easy to lose track of who owes you what. Here are some tips I hope you can use!

Things you need to remember / write down:

Who you sent the rebate to.
How much they are to send you back.
When you sent it.
When to expect in back.

Always make a copy of your rebate form (filled out), your receipt and UPCs (if applicable). If for some reason your rebate is denied, or lost you have some sort of reference when you call. (that number should be on the rebate form you kept a copy of!)

Plus keeping records helps you to remember if you have done a rebate or not. Some last for months, and a few a whole year. So if you do a $2.99 rebate in January for some dish soap, are you really going to remember that in November when you come across another form?

Also, when considering a rebate, look to see if there are any coupons you can use in addition to the rebate. Say you are doing the Palmolive Pure + Clean dish soap rebate. There is also a .75/1 MFR Q (both in 8/30 SS) you could use to bring your oop down while still getting the full price from the rebate.

I keep an excel spreadsheet, and just plug in the information as I send them out. Right now I have these coming back to me in the next few weeks:

Rite Aid $21.26 + Beauty Bag
Zantac $4.99
Kraft $20
Kellogg's $10
Kellogg's $10
Smirnoff $20

That's $85- I can do a lot of damage with $85!

Here is the schedule for the rest of the year:
